Jesus: I Speak to You Again
Chapter 115
The Sprout of the Mortal Soul Is Within You
I know your weaknesses and desires all too well. That is why I do not blame any of you for the way your inner decisions and attitudes are so controlled by them. Most of you do not even stop to reflect on your shortcomings; you go through life accepting them as if they are an unchangeable part of who you are. Because of this, you make no effort to free yourself from them or even try to reduce them. As it stands, your soul is not yet sprouted. If I compared the soul to a plant, yours would still be beneath the soil, waiting to break through.
Your soul will only begin to sprout when you start, even in brief moments, to reflect on what is holding you back from becoming a better version of yourself. If these reflections become more frequent, the sprout of your soul will slowly push through the hardened shell of your human and animal self. It is this very shell that prevents your soul from growing, and you mistakenly believe that your current qualities are inherited and therefore unchangeable, a belief reinforced by what your scientists often tell you.
However, the time has come for you to know more than even your geneticists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and anthropologists understand. The sprout of your soul—the pure essence of your spiritual self—can break through even the toughest, darkest shell. This is possible because this spiritual self within you, though encased in a material body, has its origins in a divine impulse, not a material one. Your animal self, flawed as it may be, can still encourage this spiritual sprout to grow if it begins to focus more on love, goodness, beauty, service, mercy, and brotherhood. By feeding itself with good thoughts, your lower self can start to soften the tough, inherited shell, much like cleaning a dirty window allows you to see a beautiful landscape more clearly.
Yet even with a clean window, you are still separated from the world outside by the glass. You can see the beauty, but you are not part of it—you are not yet immersed in the reality of it. Most of you, though, are satisfied with your current spiritual state and do not even attempt to clean the window at all. You haven’t been taught that it needs cleaning, and only a small number of you hear the quiet knocking of the Father’s spirit from within. Those few who listen and submit to His will are often singled out and even mocked as being “saints,” but they are not saints—they are simply becoming what it means to be a true human being, the kind of person each of you is meant to be.
When you reach that point, you will realize that you have not become a saint, but a true human being—living without the vices and illnesses that currently trouble you. This is what a real life, filled with true light, feels like. Once you experience it, you will never want to go back to your old way of living, where you didn’t even realize that your spiritual window needed cleaning to allow your soul’s eyes to see clearly, free from the distortions of vice. But you will also come to understand that merely gazing through a clean window is not enough. Your soul will long to be a part of the beauty outside, to step through that window and do good for others.
Your current vices—fear, anger, hatred, revenge, jealousy, selfish desires—are like the whims of a child. Just as a child throws tantrums when their desires are not met, so do your vices cause you and those around you to suffer. Your soul is still buried under the thick layer of these vices, and it torments others much like a child torments unwise parents with their tantrums.
But the soul doesn’t bloom in an instant, just as a child doesn’t give up their whims overnight. The process requires time and effort, and for some, it can be painful or even tragic. That is why it’s important to start now, to begin cleaning the window of your soul. By doing this, you make it easier for future generations—your children and the children of humanity—to overcome their own whims and vices more gently.
By clearing away the mud of vice from your soul’s window, you help guide the whims of others, including the children of the world, toward building strong, selfless character. As you clean your window, the beauty of the view will invite you to open it completely, allowing your soul to step out and shine brightly for all to see. And your shining soul will attract others, helping them realize they too need to clean their windows.
Even though your current vices seem small and insignificant—like a child’s whims—they can lead to serious problems if you continue to indulge them. I see far deeper and farther than you can imagine. I understand the roots of your vices and know where they will lead if left unchecked. That is why I am giving you this teaching, so you can understand as well and begin the work of freeing yourself.
